I recently purchased a MAC palette with a beautiful selection of 9 purple shades. This is a colour I wear a lot on both a daily and nightly basis. This is a must have shade if you have hazel or green eyes.

The palette is good because it has a three neutrals, three light to medium shades and three dark colours for creating a more dramatic look.

When applying make up for people in the past a common question is: will it emphasises dark circles? Not if you choose the right colours and tidy up fallout under the eye. The darker colours in this palette are very pigmented. One trick is to apply your eyeshadow first, clean away any fallout and then apply your foundation. Avoid applying dark shades on the lower las line if you are conscious of dark under eyes. Use a concealer that covers all dark circles and set lightly with a translucent powder or finishing spray.

If you are wearing as a day time look keep it simple with a soft shade across the eye lid and a slightly darker colour in the crease. You want a hint of colour but also keeping it natural for the day.

For night time, you can layer more colours and add in darker purples and plums to create a dark smokey eye.

I apply MAC fluidline eye liner in Blacktrack to darken the eyes and create an evening look. If you want to add more glam, apply some individual lashes or strip lashes and layer with mascara. I’ve been using Rimmel Extra 3D lash mascara lately and it’s great for volume and lengthening.

If going with a smokey purple eye, keep the rest of the face simple. Keep lips neutral with a soft pink or nude. If in doubt stick with a gloss. You want the focus to be on the eyes so don’t go crazy with a bright blusher. A soft pink to give a flush looks great with a highlighter on the cheeks, cuspids bow, brow bone and inner corners of the eye.

My two favourite highlights are MAC Strobe cream and MAC Soft and gentle. Use together and layer on top of one another for more impact.
